Functions of WAND
Basic systems
Updating information should be encouraged so that multi-stakeholders can utilize WAND as a tool for mutual monitoring and sharing information, and to enhance the transparency of the progress of the registered commitments and actions. Projects in developing countries may attract donors and private sectors to further necessary supports, and good practices may provide lessons learned for other countries facing similar problems.
How to collect "actions"
The data will be collected by requesting the national governments to register their water actions. These actions should be the ones which could be considered as policy decisions on practical measures and options agreed at the CSD13.

Function of Analysis & Reference
Actions will be categorized according to the themes of the CSD13's decisions. WAND will realize the interaction with the other water related databases, which makes it available for the users to refer to the information on the actions implemented by all stakeholders including private sectors and civil society.
Function of In-depth Knowledge Support
The structure and the contents will be updated as needed so that countries which are planning to initiate projects for the solution of the certain water issues can learn from similar good practices in the WAND. Furthermore, follow-up survey will be conducted to provide additional information on important key items such as IWRM, financing and monitoring.
Function of Self-diagnoses Support
Self check sheet which allows countries to identify whether their policies or projects are consistent with the recommended agendas and/or important items in the CSD13 Action Plan, MDGs, JPOI, etc. It will facilitate the governments to identify key issues or barriers to overcome with regard to policymaking, planning or implementation towards the achievement of MDGs and JPOI targets.
Function of information exchange
The web conferencing function will be added to the WAND, allowing the registered users to exchange information on good practices or to provide and share detailed information on the actions. Furthermore, outcomes of major water related conferences will be posted in timely manner so that the actions or the commitments announced or mentioned at theses conferences could be linked to those on the WAND. Linkages with existing important initiatives, such as EUWI and JMP will be also established on the website.
